Norfolk apartment fire displaces two families

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Red Cross is helping two families who are displaced after their apartment caught fire Saturday morning.

An engine from Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire and Emergency Services helped Norfolk firefighters extinguish an apartment fire in the 200 block of Greenbrier Avenue at 4:15 a.m.

Battalion Chief Brian Nichols said a total of 25 personnel responded to the fire.

Crews arrived on scene to find smoke and flames visible from the exterior of the apartment building. They were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 20 min. A total of three apartment units were involved. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
