SAN DIEGO (July 18, 2019) – Sailors man a hose during a crash and salvage drill on the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). The crash and salvage drill trains Sailors how to respond to a crash or aviation-related fire. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
