Barking Sands Fire Department Awarded International Accreditation Status
Story by Petty Officer 2nd Class Samantha Jetzer September 16, 2022 at 10:31PM BSF&ES was awarded international accreditation status on Aug. 16 from the Commission on Fire Accreditation, International (CFAI). CFAI is the only accrediting body for U.S. fire departments. This latest accreditation is the fourth in a row for PMRF’s fire department and is valid for five years.

Two New York firefighters to represent National Guard at Brazil jungle warfare school
Story by Eric Durr September 16, 2022 at 03:22PM LATHAM, NEW YORK--Two firefighters—an Army Guardsman from New York City, and a Syracuse Air Guardsman from Syracuse—will represent the New York National Guard and the United States during the Brazilian Jungle Warfare Center’s international course at the end of September. Army Sgt. William Dunn, and Air Force Tech. Sgt. Jeremy Miter will spend six weeks in the Amazon rain forest learning how to navigate in the jungle, fight in the jungle and use rivers as travel routes through the jungle. The Brazilian school, known as CIGS, the acronym for its Portuguese name -- Centro de Instrucao de Guerra na Selva—was founded in 1964, and is considered the top jungle training center in the world.

Tunnels to Towers, Supporting Veterans and First Responders
Story by Spc. brennick stevens September 16, 2022 at 12:32PM TEMPE, Ariz. – Approximately over 100 participants took part in the 7th annual Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run and Walk event here on Sept. 10, 2022. Founded immediately after the 9/11 attacks to honor the sacrifice of New York firefighter Stephen Stiller, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and its 5K Run and Walk event was then introduced into the state of Arizona in 2016.

JBSA firefighters conduct emergency egress exercise
Story by Brian Valencia September 15, 2022 at 12:49PM Firefighters from the 902nd Civil Engineer Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland conducted an emergency response egress exercise Aug. 19, 2022, testing their abilities from the initial call and response, to arriving on scene and rescuing the pilot.
