Team Rota: ABH2 Logan Schinabeck


Story by Courtney Pollock February 23, 2023 at 05:58AM Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 2nd Class Logan Schinabeck is a firefighter and driver operator assigned to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota Fire Department. “I am an Engine 2 driver operator,” he explained. “On a daily basis I am in charge of daily inspections of my fire apparatus as well as knowing how to accomplish different quantities and pressures to different discharges throughout the pump on the apparatus.” Schinabeck, from Ludlow, Massachusetts, joined the Navy in May 2015. His first command was Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) where he completed two deployments to the Persian Gulf during his five years there. In late 2020, he attended the Department of Defense Fire Academy at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas before arriving to NAVSTA Rota.

Bilateral exercise on Camp Hansen familiarizes Marines and firefighters with responding to aircraft mishap

Thomas Sheng February 22, 2023 at 04:27AM CAMP HANSEN, OKINAWA, Japan – U.S. Marines partnered with local Japanese fire and police departments for a bilateral air mishap exercise, simulating a rescue from a burning aircraft accident at the fire training facility on Camp Hansen, Feb. 9, 2023. This training tasked participants with extinguishing two fires from an accident that split a rotary wing aircraft into two pieces. While some tended to the fires, the remaining responders pulled any simulated casualties from the scene and treated their wounds accordingly. Casualties who needed additional medical treatment were airlifted to the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa.
