Two Army Reserve-funded installations have been selected to participate in piloting innovative solid waste technologies to more efficiently and effectively divert waste from landfills throughout the Army. The pilots are spearheaded by the Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff, G-9 Installations and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s Engineer Research and Development Center (specifically the Construction Engineer Research Lab). Devens Reserve Forces Training Area (RFTA), Massachusetts will implement composting and dumpster sensors, while Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico will implement composting and a Waste-to-Energy (WTE) system.

USARCENT personnel volunteer at Shaw Heights Elementary School
Twenty-four U.S. Army Central Soldiers and civilians volunteered to assist with Shaw Heights Elementary fall festival Oct. 23, 2023 in Sumter.
While at the fall festival, the volunteers assisted with the setup and teardown of the event, games and capturing photos.

NY Air Guard's 109th Airlift Wing begins Antarctic science support
STRATTON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, N.Y.-- The New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing kicked off their annual round of logistics support missions for t for United States Antarctic research by sending five LC-130s on the five-day trip to Antarctica starting on October 17.
The last two aircraft left Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia, New York on October 19.
The 109th Airlift Wing flies the largest ski-equipped aircraft in the world, and the wing plays a key role in supporting climate science research and other scientific activities conducted in Antarctica by the National Science Foundation.
The 109th expects to deploy about 366 to the continent, in shifts, during the support season.
