AFRL Regional Research Hub makes headway, plans to announce initial projects in near future

The Air Force Research Laboratory’s pilot initiative to establish regional research networks in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic (AFRL Regional Research Hubs) is progressing as operational processes are established by the lead institutions, Purdue and Cornell universities.

JALBTCX celebrates 25th Anniversary

MOBILE, Ala. – Teamwork in the form of agencies cooperating to engage in complex tasks is how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District is successful.

Looking at the history of the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise (JALBTCX) is an example of continued partnerships in action.

Developed in 1996 as a collaboration between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Atlantic Division and the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), JALBTCX is a partnership among the USACE, the U.S. Navy, NOAA, and the United States Geological Survey, located at Stennis Airport in Kiln, Mississippi.

On Nov. 29, JALBTCX held its 25th Anniversary celebration at the Hancock County Performing Arts Center in Kiln, Mississippi.

The ceremony recognized JALBTCX’s significant accomplishments over the last 25 years, plus a look ahead to its bright future.

Full Throttle STEM returns, expands to Air Force Museum

The Full Throttle STEM events May 10, 2022, at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and May 12, 2022, at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, proved to be successful this year after two years without, due to the pandemic. The Air Force Research Laboratory’s Gaming Research Integration for Learning Lab, or GRILL, hosted the events with 12 schools in attendance between both locations.

Air Force medical professionals learn craft in AFRL simulators

The U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, one of two mission units in the 711th Human Performance Wing, part of the Air Force Research Laboratory, or AFRL, is now home to a total of eight aircraft simulators with various capabilities, which help prepare medical Airmen for aeromedical evacuation, or AE, missions. The simulators are equipped with smoke, sound, fire, cameras and temperature changes, allowing the school to run realistic training.

Rescue Turns to Recovery as More Crew Members in Deadliest Air Force Osprey Crash Are Identified

The Air Force released the names of seven more crew members who perished last week during training when their CV-22 Osprey crashed into the ocean off the coast of southern Japan.
